Like children with other learning differences, gifted children often need specialized curriculum and support in order to achieve academic and social success throughout their school experiences. Gifted children have exceptional abilities in one or more learning domains (e.g., mathematics, music, athletics). Without coaching or special support these children may become bored or frustrated with school. They may develop poor work and study habits. Gifted students may feel out of place with same-age peers, seeking friendships with older children who share their interests. Early enrichment and intervention is important in order to set learning patterns for any child with special abilities or needs. Early identification can make a significant difference to a child who is a gifted learner.
The Gifted and Talented Series by Gifted Games (Gateway Gifted Resources) helps prepare young children for Gifted and Talented testing (NNAT2, OLSAT, and COGAT). These fun workbooks are developmentally appropriate for young children and offer practice opportunities for testing in reasoning, problem solving, and cognitive tasks. To keep children motivated and make learning fun, the test prep books use a detective theme “Gifted Detective Agency” as an incentive to finish the workbooks.
Each workbook targets one or more TAG tests. The workbooks have 5 parts, each designed to prepare a young child for gifted and talented tests.
(1) The introduction provides an overview of TAG tests covered in the workbook. Information is provided about the workbook, test taking tips, and information on the “Gifted Detective agency.”
(2) The workbook Section consists of skill building activities and exercises similar to ones in the tests.
(3) Practice Question Set introduces children to test taking in a relaxed manner. Parents can provided guidance and identify child strengths.
(4) Directions and Answer Key section provides answers for the practice questions and the tests.
(5) Afterward Information about additional books and a “Gifted Detective Agency” certificate.
Review of Gifted and Talented Series Workbook for the OLSAT, COGAT, NNAT2:
The workbook is a fun and valuable resource to prepare preschool and kindergarten children for talented and gifted tests (OLSAT, COGAT, NNAT2). The workbook questions are designed (patterns, figures, shapes, and colors) to simulate the test taking experience. In addition to the practice tests, this book is a valuable resource for parents embarking on TAG testing for their children. The introduction provides descriptions of the different TAG tests and notes on developmental practices in test taking for young children. For example, on some tests preschool children will not have to fill in the answer bubble, they may be asked to point to it. The introduction also provides test taking tips to help parents make test taking fun and relaxing for their child.
As a parent and an educator I highly recommend this Gifted and Talented Series Workbook. While testing young children can sometimes be controversial, it is critical to identify any child who is in need of specialized curriculum. Sometimes talented and gifted children are overlooked and that can negatively impact academic and social experiences. The Gifted and Talented Test Preparation Book is fun and may reduce test taking stress.

Great book for G&T test prep!

This is a great book for g&t test preparation. My soon-to-be 5 year-old grandson was really interested in it. The very bright, colorful design appeals to kids his age, and we found the exercises fun and challenging.

Excellent And Fun Test Prep Workbook

Gifted children are often bored and frustrated in a regular level classroom. They may exhibit difficult behavior and not relate well to the other children. In a classroom with other gifted children, they will be happier and develop their intellect to even greater levels.
Gateway Gifted Resources has developed this terrific workbook to help prepare your child for the OLSAT, COGAT and NNAT2 tests to determine whether your child is a candidate for a gifted level curriculum. This workbook is geared for children in the preschool and kindergarten levels.
Children need to learn to follow directions, learn to be focused and listen carefully. Parents should work with their children so they understand how to approach the questions. Questions are easy at first in order to build confidence.
The format is colorful, cute and all-around kid-friendly.
Practice questions for all three of the tests are towards the back of the workbook.
There is an answer keys and directions section for parents there, as well.
Children who finish the workbook will become members of the Gifted Detective Agency and will be awarded a personal certificate. What fun!
