About the Author
John C. Cavanaugh is President and CEO of the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware and his Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame. Cavanaugh is a fellow of the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science, and the Gerontological Society of America, and has served as president of the Adult Development and Aging Division (Division 20) of the APA. Cavanaugh has also written (with the late Fredda Blanchard-Fields) ADULT DEVELOPMENT AND AGING. His research interests in gerontology concern family caregiving as well as the role of beliefs in older adults' cognitive performance.

Professor Whitbourne received her Ph. D. from Columbia University and has dual specializations in life-span developmental psychology and clinical psychology. She has taught at the State University of New York at Geneseo and the University of Rochester. At the University of Massachusetts, she received the University's Distinguished Teaching Award and the College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Teacher Award. In 2002, she received the Florence Denmark/Psi Chi National Faculty Advisor Award and in 2003, the APA Division 20 (Adult Development and Aging) Master Mentor Award . She is the Honors Coordinator in the Psychology Department and the Director of the Office of National Scholarship Advisement in the newly established Commonwealth Honors College. The author of fourteen books and over one hundred journal articles and book chapters, Professor Whitbourne is regarded as an expert in the field of personality development in adulthood and old age. She is currently the APA Council Representative of Division 20 of APA having also served as Division 20 President. Professor Whitbourne has developed nationally recognized approaches to technological innovations in teaching, and the web site she developed for her introductory psychology course was selected as a McGraw-Hill Web Cafe "Site of the Month."

Far Beyond Easy.

This is another fine collection of TAB plus backing track books from Hal Leonard. I got this mostly to practice my right hand picking technique and work on my speed, and wow yeah this is a good one for that! Whats cool about this one is alot of the intros and melodies are somewhat "easy" to get under your fingers with a lot of practice, but then when it comes to the guitar solo parts, thats where it gets pretty insane. Do-able and nice to have one reliable sourse if you're a big time Dime fan, but those solos are going to take a LOT of repetition!! ;-) Great backing tracks. Minus the one star for some of the guitar work was a little oddly off from the originals, making it somewhat difficult to process. Still, a great Play Along book for Pantera fans or those wanting to rock out.

**I started a rating system based solely on how technically difficult the songs are to play fully and exactly as transcribed; 10 being extremely difficult. I buy these play along books not usually so much to play exactly along note for note, but if that's what you do then the rating is based on those who would do that: note for note, no improvising.

Difficulty: 9.3 Pretty extreme in quite a few areas. Melodies are easier to learn than the Dime solos. Really good backing tracks.

Anne Fausto-Sterling, the Nancy Duke Lewis Professor of Biology and Gender Studies at Brown University, is a leading expert on the development of gender identity as well as the biology of gender. Her latest research analyzes the emergence of behavioral differences between the sexes in early childhood. She is the author of two earlier books: Myths of Gender: Biological Theories about Women and Men (Basic, 1993) and Sexing the Body: gender politics and the construction of sexuality (Basic, 2000).

Accessible and succinct but not oversimplified

This book is great! It's a quick and easy read (just 123 pages) covering the development of sex, gender, and sexuality in an up-to-date and very clear manner. It shows that a basic understanding of how development works in an environmental (for humans, highly social) context can make sense of a lot of the complexity and diversity of sex, gender, and sexuality. It includes a very useful and succinct treatment of Jordan-Young's analysis of the research on "brain sex" (Brain Storm: The Flaws in the Science of Sex Differences). It addresses issues of sexual development & intersexes that Fausto-Sterling examined in Sexing the Body: Gender Politics and the Construction of Sexuality, but in a much more concise (and updated) way. It includes a clear and balanced treatment of the state of knowledge, lack of knowledge, and issues associated with research on the "causes" of sexuality. I team-teach in an interdisciplinary (biology, psychology, literature, history, anthropology) introduction to gender & sexuality, mostly freshmen, and this will be a VERY useful book for us -- getting a core set of critical concepts across in an engaging, easy-to-follow way that does not require excessive amounts of reading. It also references the larger literature so those who want to know more have a guide for further reading.

Most accessible of Fausto-Sterling's books

This is the 3rd book by Ms Fausto-Sterling which I have read. Without question, for me this was the easiest one to read. Ms Fausto-Sterling is by no means a light weight. She is a biologist, feminist and historian of science and is Professor of Biology and Women's Studies at Brown University. Putting it as an understatement, she knows of what she speaks.
And of what she speaks, with great authority, are the multiple factors that go into the formation of what is commonly called, "gender." Most of us have an everyday sense of what gender is. In a sense, it is a throw-away concept, for example, baby boys wear blue, baby girls wear pink. Girls can't throw a baseball nor a football with any kind of authority. It's a "boy" thing. Boys who can't throw or have interests that lay in what is stereotypically the realm of the "female gender" are called sissies. The reverse are called "tom-boys".
As is her wont, Ms Fausto-Sterling brings a multitude of sciences and research to bear on this notion of "gender." She looks at studies done under the auspices of biology, neurology, psychology, anthropology and even history, to bring the reader to question just what s/he actually means when using the word, "gender."
This is a phenomenal and thought provoking book. AFS manages to bring into question everything we think we know about gender and so-called gender-based differences.
AFS is usually not all that easy to read. She does her homework and, as in her previous two books, "Myths of Gender," and "Sexing the Body - Gender Politics and the Construction of Sexuality," her notes, graphs, references and suggested further readings (I immediately bought three of them) tend to take up at least as much space as her text, if not more.
One thing is certain, when you read a book by Anne Fausto-Sterling, you know your are reading the work of a very serious scholar. She looks into details that may not even occur to the average reader. She also points out flaws in previous research which leads her to question some findings.
One aspect of this newest volume that is new to me is that she shows a sense of humor. Maybe I just missed it in her previous works, but it is a welcome addition here. This adds to the readability of the volume. It seems written for the broader, more general audience. My opinion is that she succeeds at that goal.
If you want to begin to explore the issue of gender/sexuality, you can do yourself a service by beginning with this volume. Since it is full of references and notes, you are furnished with many tools as to where to go next if you want to continue your exploration. I love this book and will likely read it again.

About the Author

Feng Tang was born in 1971 in Beijing. His real name is Zhang Haipeng, and he’s a Taurus. He studied at Peking Union Medical College from 1990 to 1998 and earned a doctorate in clinical medicine with a specialization in gynecologic oncology. He received an MBA in business management in the United States and has worked as a consultant for McKinsey & Company. He currently lives in Hong Kong. His novels include the trilogy Give Me a Chick at 18, Everything Grows, and Beijing, Beijing and the standalone titles Happiness and Oneness. His short stories include “Pigs and Butterflies,” “You Live and Live and Then You’re Old,” “How to Become a Monster,” and “36 Biggies of Life.” He has written a collection of poems entitled One Hundred Poems of Feng Tang. Beijing, Beijing is his debut in English.

I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning ...

I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning contemporary China society (especially the late 90s).

I'm personally fascinated with the story and Feng's writing style. I spent five years in China, mainly Beijing, studying Chinese and Chinese Literature. I'm glad that I encountered "Beijing,Beijing" (the Chinese version) while I was trying to delve into contemporary Chinese literature.

The "explicit erotic" depiction may remind you of Henry Miller. Beyond all that, it reveals some emotional and private experience of the generation. It has the big picture and the very personal journey as well. The late 90s is an important time period that surely can not be skipped for anyone who wants to learn the contemporary China, and "Beijing, Beijing" would be the best book to turn to.

I like to read Michelle Deeter's English translation of this book. It catches Feng's unique writing rhythm and humor.

While reading (again), I feel like it takes me back to where I were in Beijing. Highly recommend it. It will surprise you when you start it.

I guess there is a reason I didn't make to MD nor MK partner. There is something raw about BJ BJ which made them happen

Heard about Feng Tang as he is famous in China, as a controversial writer ,as a investor, as a McKinsey partner. It is hard to believe Feng Tang as 3 in 1. It is like buying a ticket expecting a movie but there is a damn hot guy sitting next to you served with popcorn and nachos for free and he asked your number ! you may like it or hate it. The 'exotic' scenes were fascinating and funny with a lot of live experiences from his Gynaecology M.D degree. (Yes he has a MD on Gynaecology). There is something heavy when I realized in this book, during the time people had so little to live on( both cultural and money wise) but so much to express. I have never been poor money wise, but I always feel poor mentally. I guess there is a reason I did not make it to MD nor MK partner. There is something raw about Beijing Beijing which made them happen. when I say raw, I meant physically and mentally . LOL

As an English reader in most time of my life, I’m happy to see his books getting published in English. Expecting to see more.

One of mine Chinese friends who is art industry recommended Feng Tang’s book to me. What I heard is that Feng’s book had become some kind of “underground” fever among Chinese readers years ago. It, of course, is not underground anymore now, but if you know a little bit about Chinese publishing industry, you may understand what I meant by “underground” that it often roughly equals excellent quality in any terms. Beijing, Beijing is one of his signature series that I enjoyed reading. Another one which is even more worth reading, Oneness, is true underground in mainland China, because it is censored and is only published in Hong Kong.

As an English reader in most time of my life, I’m happy to see his books getting published in English. Expecting to see more of him.

About the Author
Scott Hamilton has specialized in SCM/ERP information systems for manufacturing and distribution for three decades, and consulted globally with several hundred manufacturing/distribution companies. His publications include ten books about SCM using Dynamics AX as well as two textbooks about SCM/ERP, and his books have been translated into Russian, Chinese and Japanese. For more than 10 years, Scott has been a frequent speaker at Microsoft and AXUG conferences around the world. He earned a doctorate in information systems specializing in manufacturing, and has taught SCM/ERP as an MBA professor at several leading universities. His regular column “The AX Solution Architect” is published in the leading on-line journal MSDynamicsWorld.com.

Best bet for new and seasoned AX users!

As a project manager implementing Dynamics AX, I have been responsible for training new users and also staying abreast of the latest enhancements to software functionality. In terms of a training tool, this book provides the correct depth and breadth of information for training new users and the functional team members, especially in explaining the integrated business processes. It has also helped me (as a seasoned AX user) understand and anticipate the changes in software functionality in my areas of responsibility.

Scott nailed it again. I can always count on his books to give me what I need to get my job done. He distills the changes up front so I can quickly ramp up on the new product and provides the right amount of detail so I can drill down to what I need for my users. I'm very keen on business processes, so having BPMN diagrams for every process really helps put it into context.

Great book! This is my first experience with one of Scott Hamilton's books and it is a very positive experience. This book makes it easy to understand complex concepts and the process flows are indispensable. I've been working with Dynamics AX for over 15 years and found the information contained in this book to be invaluable. I highly recommend this book to anyone (new to AX or experienced) looking to gain a better understanding of Dynamics AX Supply Chain.
